through the khimar
Damascus | 2011
One of the impressions that remained, being in Syria, were woman with an overall covered face. To simulate and experience this perseption the veil was fixed in front of the lens.
The series is an interpretation of how it must feel to pass through a city with black fabric in front of the eyes. Furthermore the aspect of not being seen plays an important role: For the women as well as for the photographic act – which can be quite difficult in Syria.
